Train Away

Whether you’re preparing for a racing season or cycling event, building towards fitness goals, new to riding in groups or recovering from injury, our coaches have been there and done it.  They know how to support you physically and mentally to progress with confidence through a block of structured cycling.  You’ll finish the training camp a better cyclist.

Location & Accommodation

We are based at The Albir Playa Resort & Spa, on the Costa Blanca, Spain.

This small town offers a great base for exploring the beautiful natural reserves and orange groves somewhat hidden from the busier resorts to the south.

This incredible four-star hotel has a health spa and swimming pool for post ride recovery. The buffet meals are tasty and plentiful and has a huge variety to suit everyone and if you have special dietary requirements we can arrange to cater for that also! After our meal we will congregate in the bar for a nice drink and a chat about the next day’s riding and challenges.

Fully Coached & Supported

Every ride is accompanied by a qualified coach who offers individual guidance on your technique, efficiency, effort and skills.  We ensure that you are able to ride in a group and gain maximum benefit from structured intervals – for example: sprint efforts, through-and-off, cornering, descending & climbing techniques, power tests.  Each route is planned to make sure you are able to progress over the week and moving between groups is encouraged.

The Best Routes

We provide GPX routes that cover a variety of terrains and challenge – from new riders to those who are race training. Col de Rates is a favourite climb for all abilities, one side or the other or both! Routes vary in length with faster groups on 100-130 km and slower up to 80 km.

Bike Hire

If you’d rather hire a bike than take your own, we have our very own well maintained fleet of Basso machines ready and waiting built to ride in your measurements. We also supply a helmet and spares so all you need is your pedals and shoes.

Club camp option

We organise bespoke training camps for cycling clubs who don’t want the hassle of organising this themselves. Club members just arrange their own flights and we take care of the rest. Penge CC have enjoyed an annual trip to the Costa Blanca since February 2018 and  are extremely happy to continue dates for further trips. Our training camp is organised into ability groups, each guided and coached over 6 rides to maximise improvement over the week. Please get in touch if you’d like to discuss this option for your club.

Having arrived at theAlbir Playa hotel, we set up the bikes or fit the hires and poodle off for a short ride to find a café and get to know each other. Dining each night is buffet style and we congregate after in the bar for evening chat and a briefing about the next day’s ride.

There are different group rides to choose from depending on individual fitness, goals and preferences. We all set off at the same time each morning after breakfast at 10am and return for lunch and an afternoon’s recovery. Rides vary according to terrain and distance, but usually all groups are cycling in the same location and sometimes see each other as well as a few pro teams. You may have specifics for your ride – intervals, through-and-off, sprint efforts, an FTP or simply endurance improvement over the week. No one is dropped and everyone rides at their own level.

Our training camp weather is always better than home! Even in early February the shorts are on. With an optional recovery ride mid week, we complete six rides on beautiful roads; east along the coast to Calp and Denia and west on the mountain roads in the Guadalest region, covering inland valleys and orange groves along the way.

Everyone climbs the Col De Rates – some twice, in both directions. Most leave for the UK on the Saturday morning flight, some choosing to extend their holiday for a few more days.
